BPFI are delighted to host its inaugural Sustainable Finance Conference on Wednesday 24th April 9.00am - 1.00pm at the College Green Hotel Dublin.
This conference will explore with leading national and international experts the critical role of the banking sector in financing the transition to a decarbonised economy and what banks require to deliver on the ambitious climate agenda of the European Union and the Irish government.
The conference will cover three themes:
1. Financing Ireland’s Climate Transition
Keynotes will be given by Minister Ryan and the EPA’s Laura Burke on the status of government actions to support Ireland’s transition to a decarbonised economy. Domestic banks will discuss their experience of integrating the new ESG requirements and supporting businesses and households to make the transition to more sustainable economic activities and ensure climate resilience.
This critical discussion will look at the essential public-private collaboration that is needed to support Ireland navigate the climate emergency.
2. Banking on a sustainable economy – the Commercial Case for ESG
In recognition of the shared challenges of business and financial institutions, we will look at the commercial case of sustainable business practices with leading state bodies and large companies and consider best practice in supporting their counter parties on their sustainable journey.
We consider the emerging focus on environmental and social factors, including recognition of the importance of nature and biodiversity-based solutions.
3. Transition Planning
This session will explore with senior European supervisors and international banking experts, banks’ NetZero transition plans in the context of elevated transition risks and the significant and evolving sustainable finance regulatory regime. As banks integrate ESG factors into their business models, strategies and risk frameworks, we consider usability of the EU Sustainable Finance Framework and what is needed to achieve alignment with Paris Climate Agreement objectives.
Meri Rimmanen, Director of Data analysis, Reporting and Transparency at the European Banking Authority will deliver a keynote address.
