Financial Literacy

The funds and asset management industry plays a crucial role in supporting economic growth and development, empowering individuals, communities, and businesses. By mobilising and harnessing the power of individuals’ savings into investment opportunities to generate an additional source of funding, the funds and asset management industry helps to create a more robust economy capable of supporting sustainable growth.

We are committed to empowering individuals by providing them with the financial knowledge and insight to understand and choose the best options for building and protecting their savings. We are also firmly committed to championing excellence and awareness in environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues to ensure a sustainable future.

In 2022 Irish Funds launched the Financial Literacy Transition Year programme as a pilot across 12 schools in Ireland. The programme has seen notable growth in that time, expanding to 18 schools in 2023/2024 across 10 counties and reaching over 800 students. Participating counties last year included Galway, Sligo, Roscommon, Offaly, Limerick, Cork, Tipperary, Wicklow, Louth, and Dublin.

This unique experiential financial literacy programme for Transition Year students combines:

  • Financial Literacy

  • Life Skills

  • Real Life Funds and Asset Management examples

The programme also includes digital finance and sustainable investing, two areas identified by the OECD as competences that are particularly relevant in the future. The six interactive modules are brought to life using real examples presented in the class by funds and asset management industry experts. This unique modular programme is tailored to schools' specific needs.
